History

History! This year Camelot Retirement Village celebrates its 27th Anniversary as the premier retirement community in South Texas. It has consistently been voted as the “Best Retirement Community” by the Valley Morning Star’s (Harlingen’s Daily Newspaper) annual readers’ poll.

The first Garden Homes were built in 1979 with numerous “New Construction” phases throughout the years. Most of the original Garden Homes were fourplexes with some larger duplexes in the mix. As each new phase evolved, our floor plans incorporated more spacious accommodations.

The Garden Homes, as they become available for Sale or Lease, are repainted, re-carpeted and equipped with new appliances. They are still very popular for residents who do not require the larger floor plans.

Although none of the original developers of Camelot Retirement Village are still involved with Camelot, they were very astute in designing what is now a good concept. Originally, only garden homes were envisioned; after several years, it was decided to develop a midrise apartment building and then later an assisted living facility was developed. The apartment building and the assisted living facility are not owned by the owner of Camelot Retirement Village but these buildings are surrounded by the Garden Homes of Camelot Retirement Village and there is some movement between the buildings.

The original Garden Homes were built in 1979 and the interior of most have been totally remodeled. The exteriors have been upgraded and are continuing to be repaired and refurbished including new roofs as needed.

Newer Garden Homes have been built using the latest construction techniques. In 2005, new Garden Homes will be built.
